How is love and sacrifice represented in Pride and Prejudice?
Q. What is the impact of love and sacrifice on the main characters? What is the author the Pride and Prejudice suggesting about love and sacrifice? What would be a good thesis statement for these questions?

A. A basic theme of the story, one could argue, is that love conquers all. Thinking about it in terms of that particular society, Darcy and Elizabeth shouldn't have ended up together. He was well off, she was poor. He was upper class, had family connections, and was high up in society. She had no connections, had a family full of "silly" sisters and parents, and wasn't too much in the company of high society. But, despite all the odds against them- family, wealth, their individual pride and prejudices, they ended up together. And why? Because they fought for each other. They fought for a true love that they both deserved. Darcy sacrifices his pride by paying for Lydia's shotgun wedding with Wickham. Though he despises the man, he patches up… [cont.]

A. Through faith in the coming of the Messiah. They had an annual sacrifice of a lamb in the holiest of holies in the tabernacle. The high priest would be the only one allowed to enter there and the blood was sprinkled on the mantle for the sins of the people who has faith in the coming Messiah, Jesus.

How is it patriotic to sacrifice a little freedom so that authorities can fight terrorism?
Q. To sacrifice something for your country is patriotic. I assume terrorists are unpatriotic [towards our country] because they try to kill us. So is it good give up a little freedom to preserve the majority of it?
Asked by Me - Thu Oct 9 00:09:52 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First of all the country is not fighting terrorism. Terrorism is not even a serious threat to the United States. What happened in 2001 was bad, sure, but it didn't seriously damage the American infrastructure, and the number of people killed there was many times less than the number of people murdered by other Americans. It was not Pearl Harbor, an attack by a militarized nation able and prepared to bring the country to its knees, but a lucky hit by a ragtag band of radicals. It hasn't been repeated, and wouldn't have been repeated whether Osama bin Laden had been put on the run or not. That's just to put it in perspective. The American public scares easily. They read the media and they react to whatever it says. It says, "2000 people… [cont.]

What features in a monitor sacrifice performance for value in gaming?
Q. Okay, so, I'm not asking what monitor I should buy, merely what features that make a difference in gaming. For example, the size of a monitor is a personal preference/budget question. You might not like it, but you can play any game on any size monitor. If you have the requirements, the game will transmit into the monitor with no problem. I realize that resolution is important as well, as these new video cards transmit massive resolutions that an LCD monitor might not support, but once again, I'm really not trying to discuss things of this nature. I just want to know which features sacrifice gaming performance for value. Think FPS, strategy, and the occasional movie. What contrast ratio, response time, refresh rate, brightness, and… [cont.]

A. For what you are talking about, there really arn't a lot of things that I can think of that would fit for what you want. One I can think of is response time. This will impact the time you have to react to situations in games so the lower the response time the better. I would go for somewhere around 8 milliseconds or lower. Other than that, there really isn't much that fits what you want. Brightness and contrast, stuff like that doesn't really make a difference because they are all about the same and can be adjusted anyway. If you want higher quality go for a DVI monitor instead of VGA, but once again a game will work just as good on VGA so this really isn't a big deal, but is better for the occasional movie. One thing that you might look… [cont.]

Why is it considered a sacrifice to eat a tastey fish fry on Fridays in Lent?
Q. Do catholics actually feel like their sacrificing or honoring Jesus? It is an insult to Jesus in my opinion. If you wanna sacrifice go 24 hours without eating. I used to lose 20 pounds in a week for wrestling. Eating a fish fry on a Friday and thinking your doing Gods Work is ludacris.

A. Catholics don't have to eat fish on Fridays, and never have had to! We used to have to give up eating meat on Fridays, as that is the day Jesus died for us on the cross and it was meant as denying us some pleasure. Lots of people like meat and as eating fish was no penance to them and there are some great tasty fish fries, the Church has given us the option of choosing our own Friday penance. This make take the form of fasting, almsgiving, doing good works, or all three! Of course we can still not eat meat on Fridays too. God bless

A. sacrifice in this sentence means those things you gave up, or denied yourself, so that you could provide for your kids. for example, saving money or using it for the kids instead of going out to eat all the time, or not buying yourself new clothes so that your kids had nice things to wear, would be considered sacrifices.

What good is it to sacrifice your life for a cause or an ideal?
Q. if that cause is simply an idea rather than concrete reality? When the people involved in it are not like they are in teh movies? That they are petty and egotistical? What makes you want to sacrifice your life other than family members? Aftter all your life is not intended for a film; you meet the daily banafity of life and its people. You dont' know people enough as to want to die for them anyway.

A. I believe this question is more a matter of philosophy than psychology. It is a matter of what you value. If one values another person or cause more than he values his own life, then he would find it worth his life. Men who fight in wars generally believe that the purpose of that war is greater than his own single life. Valuing ideals or another person over oneself is part of greatness.

A. It has nothing to do with it. I wonder why the Catholic Church is so insistent on denying that Mary and Joseph had a love life and had other kids. It's really stupid and the Bible says that they did, in fact, have a physical relationship and other children.

Why are Jews no longer required to keep all of the law and sacrifice animals?
Q. Why are Jews no longer required to keep all of the law and sacrifice animals? The sacrifices, to my understanding, were sin offerings to atone for their not being able to keep the law perfectly. Since they aren't doing that today, why do Jews pick and chose what laws to keep and which to ignore? What is the criteria for having sins forgive today? Why bother if they do not believe in heaven or hell? Please explain to me, I'd like to understand this.
Asked by unknown - Mon Dec 21 08:17:34 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The simple answer - no Temple. And the Jews are still required to keep all of the law. The sin offerings were for very specific transgressions, not for a vague "everyone's a sinner" deal like the Christians use. Jews hold the notion that God is actually a reasonable guy, not a psychopath tormenting people forever for the slightest deviation. Most Jews believe that after you die, you get punished for your bad deeds (not forever) and then forgiven. It's not a hell, more like a recounting of your entire life which makes you feel ashamed of the bad parts.

Nothing in life that's worth having won't come without a few bumps in the road. Have faith that it will all work out for the two of you.

What is the spiritual message we are given from the sacrifice of Jesus?
Q. Did he sacrifice himself knowingly or to an extent, that he would be materialized into religion for humanity and become One with God?
Asked by aeiou_i - Tue Oct 27 09:42:55 2009 - - 10 Answers - 1 Comments

A. He was one with God prior to coming to earth in the first place. His sacrifice was an appeasement for the Law, which required the death penalty for sins. "He who knew no sin became sin for us, so that we could become the righteousness of God in Him." He died to pay the penalty for our transgressions, so that we would have the opportunity to confess our sins and repent of them. The message is the same one that Jesus told the woman caught in the act of adultery, when the religious leaders were trying to trap Jesus into saying something He would later regret. He told the woman, "I do not condemn you. Now, go and sin no more!" That's the message, "Go and sin no more" because Jesus sets us free from our sins, and "Whom the Son sets… [cont.]
