A. Read some of the quotes of Confucius and start to put them together in your mind. The morality builds in you as you become enlightened. There is not a separate chapter of ethics to read. You are a collection of experiences that develops as you live. Some ways are harder to live than others.

A. Buddha: we can get free from suffering through getting rid of attachment/desire, aversion/hatred and ignorance, and instead developing compassion, love and wisdom. Laozi (Daoism): we can get free from all problems through living in harmony with nature and the natural way of the universe. Kongzi (Confucius): he stresses more living in harmony with society and other people.

Why does Confucianism and Daoism(Taoism) seem to avoid specifics?
Q. Both religions seem to have a very loose definition of right and wrong, but leaves the believer to contemplate between them. For example the Filial Piety hierarchy of sorts seems to set up the initial relationships, but the definitions of the duties are very loosely explained. Why is this? Why do both religions seem to have such a loose structure? I am just curious to see what people answer to this question, and in no way am degrading either religion or way of thought. Thanks in advance.

What is the diff. between Confucianism and Daoism?
Q. How did each of these shape classical Chinese society and culture?
Asked by Yk - Sun Sep 13 19:21:01 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Both arose during the final years of Zhou dynasty. They're pretty much the same thing, but Daoism appealed more to the people of a higher class who had an interest in a more elaborate spirituality. In Daoism, politics was not a requirement for happiness. Daoism promoted its own set of ethics. Daoist harmony with nature best resulted through humility and frugal living. Political activity and learning were irrelevant to a good life.

A. Confucianism is concerned solely with human interaction in society, how people get along with one another, who governs whom, how society functions. Taoism/Daoism is concerned with the natural world and man's place in it, with the belief that man must adapt to the forces of nature rather than the other way around.

Q. What are ethnics and morality in Confucianism and Daoism?
Asked by megan - Mon May 7 15:29:21 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Confucianism is more political. Confucianism focuses on relationships, father to son, ruler to subject, younger brother to older brother. Confucius believed that the rulers should be concerned for the welfare of the people. Daoism is the belief that one should live in harmony and peace and be one with nature. If a Daoist was in an argument, the Daoist is expected to yield to the arguer. For example: If there was a corrupt ruler that stole money from the people for a luxurious palace, a Confucian would tell the ruler to be less selfish, while a Daoist wold tell the ruler to run away to the woods and mediate on the problem
